Presiding Officers'
Advisory Committee on Legislative Ethics
On January 31, 2006, then-Speaker of the House John Richardson
and Senate President Beth Edmonds created the Presiding Officers'
Advisory
Committee on Legislative Ethics. Their aim was to facilitate an
independent review of the existing state laws and regulations affecting
legislative ethics to ensure that they were appropriate to ensure
public confidence in the Legislature.
The 15 members of the committee met five times and issued a report
on Dec. 4, 2006 to the incoming 123rd Maine State Legislature in
December. It is expected that legislation will be submitted this
session to implement many or all of the committee's recommendations.
